New Lens / Why Soft?

I'm breaking in a new lens and getting many (mostly?) soft images. Here's an example. I can't figure out why this is soft. I don't see where it's front focusing or back focusing. The shutter speed is fast enough so there shouldn't be camera shake or subject movement. I focused on the left eye. I've applied light sharpening in Lightroom. Why isn't this sharper? Thanks.
